The Central Asian Partners (CAP) Shipping Service is a U.S. based, volunteer-run service that collects mail and packages for members working in Kyrgyzstan, and then ships these by air to the capital city of Bishkek once a month. Members take turns unpacking the shipments when they arrive in Bishkek. There are too many volunteers here in Georgia to mention by name who have spent many long, and fun hours packing up the shipments. We have three teams that rotate once every three months to pack. These teams are led by Lee Jacobs, Jack Scott and Wayne Wright. We could not do it without the tireless efforts of these three and their packing teams.
The service was begun in 1993 to enable the expatriates working in Kyrgyzstan to have a reliable method of receiving mail and packages. Since that time more than 3400 boxes with a total weight exceeding 224,000 pounds (101,500 kilograms) have been shipped over to Kyrgyzstan. We have had many letters expressing what a lifeline this service is. Others say it is like having Christmas every month when the shipment arrives. For 2002, each shipment averaged 73 boxes and 4336 pounds (1950 kilograms). Currently there are 112 members utilizing this service nationwide.
